My friend's husband is instrumental in bringing this together:

ThirstyBear will formally release Locavore Ale at 5 pm on August 24, 2010. This is their first 100% Bay Area beer made from Eatwell Farm (Dixon, CA) malted barley and Hops-Meister Farm (Clear Lake, CA) hops. ThirstyBear will serve Locavore Ale exclusively on premise at 661 Howard Street, San Francisco. ThirstyBear invites you to join them for a special press tour and tasting on our release date. Eatwell Farm will also provide its organic heirloom tomatoes for the event prepared by ThirstyBear's chef Jessica Gorin.
I need the flimsiest of excuses to grab brew, let alone to support the efforts of a friend.

Is this a free event open to the public? If so, any idea whether there's still room/space available?

According to my colleague, tonight is open/free, come as you are. The bookings were only for pre-launch previews and such.

Nice. My gf and I will probably stop by. Any idea as to how long the event is going on for?

Not sure, I just assume that after some unveiling or little ceremony/speech, it will be business as usual at T-Bear. This is the first big batch, and they are going to sell it until it runs out, which will take weeks if not a few months.

Would have thought people would be going to the scotch tasting and 25% On The Fly event.

August 24 tue 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Join The Bold Italic for an evening of revelry and deals at On The Fly.

We'll be tasting single malt whiskey (it's free), partaking of the savory and sweet deliciousness that is Bike Basket Pies, and poking around this inspired store for items of interest - taking full advantage of their offer of 25% off any single full priced item.

Ha! Roikins beat me too it. I'll be at On the Fly at 6, maybe I can squeeze the Bear in before hand.

So the gf and I checked out the Thirsty Bear last night to try the new Locavore beer. For a pale ale, it was really mellow, and we thought the local hops definitely added a certain crispness to the beer that is usually more muted in other brews. On the nose, you get a huge hit of hops. On the palate, I got a lot of honey, some citrus, and only a very slight bitter note to balance things out. We overheard one of the brewmasters talking some guy about the beer, and said that as far as their beers go, their new Locavore beer is about as simple as it gets, i.e. 1 kind of hops, 1 kind of barley - while you might be able tell that the beer was lacking "complexity," it certainly did not detract from its overall enjoyability. Overall, great beer - definitely worth checking out.

Glad you liked it. I drank a metric ass-ton of it last night. Did you sample the tomatoes from Eatwell Farm? Delicious.
