I've recently become interested in upgrading my furniture and have become taken with the MCM aesthetic as is probably typical for someone of my age and interests. Up until now all my furniture was probably worth less than two of my suits.

I've been reading up here and looking at places like DWR and don't see much love for the sofa sectional. In my space, it would work a lot better than a sofa/loveseat and I just feel like it would I'd get a good amount of use of the chaise part. I have a loveseat now and basically it is only used when I entertain or by my dog to look out the window.

What do y'all think? Is something like this so bad ?

I don't have a problem w/ sectionals except for space and configurability issues.

I see too many sectionals taking up too much space. It is all about proportions. They tend to dominate the room. And if they're too big in a room, it looks tacky.

Then you have the fact that the chaise is either on the left or right side which will limit future grouping with other furniture. What happens if you get other chairs or move the placement of the sectional to accommodate other a change (fireplace, tv,etc).

I prefer a sofa w/ a matching love seat / club chair or with a separate lounge/chaise. This way, you don't get too comfy with guests you are not fond of.

I agree with everything chronoguy says. They seem like they would work well, but every one I've dealt with in person has been really awkward. I always end up sitting really close to someone I don't really know, or sitting far from someone I actually want to have a conversation with.
