Hoy guys,

I all are doing well and ready to enjoy the holidays. I wear blue suits a lot and always pair them with red, burgundy, purple, or grey ties. However, after purchasing the darkest midnight blue grossa from Hober, I have begun trying to understand if I should attempt to match the blue of my tie to that of my suit or not.

My findings for your consideration:

1) With a light blue suit
- always wear a darker tie.

2) with a very dark midnight navy suit
- if tie is solid try to match the color of the suit - if tie is patterned (I.e. Dots) then you can go a bit lighter

3) if suit is patterned / or w/ sportcoats
-I don't wear pinstriped suits but happy to discuss

I do like the grey suit/grey tie look, and the same applies to blue/navy.

The pattern of the suit and tie are important than the colour. I would wear a plain blue or navy suit with a blue/navy patterned tie, matched with a plain shirt. If the shirt is patterned, e.g. striped, then it is important it does not clash with the tie.

You could wear a navy patterned suit with a navy patterned tie, but in this scenario a plain shirt is best.

If you want to go further and wear a blue shirt, wear a light blue shirt with medium/dark suit and medium/dark tie.

Let's start over.

Light blue suit allows almost any tie that isn't extremely dark or near-white, though to try to get away with it an office calls for a moderately conservative tie.

Midnight blue suit goes with a dark or medium-color tie.

Avoid blue suit with both a blue shirt and blue tie.
