Hi, Some time ago I bought a casual dress pants from Incotex. The pants stop just below the navel. Please take a look at the pants I am referring to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=130041750417 I am not really used to such a high rise. In my opinion it looks a bit weird with a shirt tugged in: it makes the upper level of body look shorter than what would be normal. Of course this is purely subjective, and maybe I should just get used to it. Please instruct me on this matter. Mike

Hard to tell how crazy they are without a picture of you wearing them, ha ha.

Just below the navel? That's not particularly extreme though higher than I wear them.

I didn't know pants were worn any lower than that.

Well, some people think it is normal for them to be worn 3-4 inches lower than the navel since they just know of Banana Republic and Express' offerings.

I happen to own three other dress pants: 1 Corneliani, 1 Boss and 1 RLPL. They are all a bit lower.

This Incotex is a casual pants though and it has a higher rise than my formal pants.

I have a short torso and wearing pants that high would make me look pretty goofy. I choose lower rise pants for this reason.

And some of us who were wearing dress pants when others were wearing diapers just happen to prefer a lower rise. Again, personal preferences not dogma.

I suppose I could not imagine a rise that ends much below the navel. I would call anything less hiphuggers. And they were popular in the 70's. Maybe they are making a comeback.

Think of this. A low rise pant and a Thom Browne jacket and you could show some skin like the women do these days.

Only if the dinner reservation is before 4:30 and the waist band above the navel ought you worry.

sorry but the true rise has nothing to do with your navel.
everyone refers to his navel because that is his own point of reference.
just like the false coat length measured by arm length.
some have shorter and some have longer arms.
likewise some have higher or lower navels.
how do you find a trouser with your rise?
first open your wallet spend $4 on a good tape measure.
then measure the trouser that fits your rise the best.
the formula is "outseam minus inseam equals rise".
then measure trousers in the store before trying on.
this saves a great deal of time.
it works also for jeans.

I find higher rises more comfortable. Just below navel for my dress pants is pretty standard. I like an even higher rise for brace trousers.

I need to retract my earlier comments -- and control my drinking apparently -- because when I put on a suit last night to go out and celebrate the new year I made a point to check where the pants fell.

Sure enough, just below my navel.
