Thought I would give this thread a small bump as I am looking for a 7" chef knife to give as a gift. Looking for a good quality begenniers knife that's priced around $50-$70.
Any recs?

i think the consensus is pretty much either MAC or messerschmit elite at that price point.

I bought one to make do while i send my shuns in. It definitely arrives sharp, but I really don't like the handle and the blade seems kinda cheap compared to a shun, but it's ok for occasional use.

Any thoughts on Watanabe knives or alternatives in that price point? Looking to get another santoku, gyuto and yanagiba.
