While on the topic of shoe tending… I’ve been thinking a bit about the recuperative powers of Rancourt’s chromepak shoes. These 1967 bluchers are beasts and I tend to wear them as shop shoes or for projects that don’t quite warrant boots.

Anyhow, back in February I scuffed them up pretty good and wanted to document how they recovered. In the past, light marks had disappeared by themselves, the shoes emerging from their bags looking renewed.

These marks were still quite visible after a couple weeks, so I did some brushing with a boar bristle brush. That improved things a lot. Today I took them out again and saw the marks had faded more. I did a bit more brushing.

You can see the results below. It is an interesting leather, sort of a super CXL, I guess.

These leather are treated with oil to make it supple and water resistant. When the shoes hit something, the oil moves to other part and hence that mark. After a while, it become almost normal. No need to use brush.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Just received my camp Mocs in buckaroo and love them already! View attachment 1367449
Ok, quick 24 hour update.... So I wore these around all day yesterday (both with and without socks). I found the fit to be pretty tight...but that's ok as I think this leather will soften and stretch over time (hopefully). I took the advice of many here and went with a snug fit. I did have some pretty bad pressure points but fortunately no blisters. We'll see how it goes. I emailed Rancourt last night, though, as upon close inspection last night, I found there's a small hole (enlarged stitching hole) in the heal of one of the shoes. I know these aren't meant to be super water tight, but it does concern me a bit to be able to see daylight through the shoe. I'll wait to see what they say. I welcome any comments here, though.

Lasting hole most likely?

I just got a response back from Rancourt saying it's from the tacks they use in the hand stitching process and shouldn't be an issue. So I'm all set. I do love these shoes. Great job, Rancourt!
Cool. I see similar concerns pop up on the Alden thread too, so you're not the first to question it. :D
I've got them on a lot of pairs, including my shell pinches

@Blue_Bowtie - Love the flat laces. I generally hate the laces that Rancourt puts on any of their shoes/boots and almost always swap out their laces for some Alden flat waxed laces.
