Question: how can I turn these clothes into an outfit?

Thanks for the ideas on shoes and coats, it's really helping me build up a mental inventory of things my wardrobe could use.

Vince Lombardi: You're completely right. I have very broad shoulders but a tiny waist. While the ensuing 'V' shape of my torso looks alright at the beach, it means that clothes (shirts especially) hang off me like sacks. Also complicated by the fact that I have monkey arms and a skinny neck (15.5, 35). I'm still trying to find a good, and fairly inexpensive, source of fitted shirts where I live.

As for the tie, I hadn't even considered the size of the knot! But looking at it now, I can see what some people mean by too big. I just tied a half-windsor for convenience's sake, but it's also what I usually tie. What would you suggest for something smaller, the four-in-hand? The asymmetry bugs me a little bit, but I'm not sure there's anything else to be done with a chunky tie.

These items go quite well together, somebody had some thought when choosing them. I'm glad you mentioned that the trousers were cotton. I agree with the navy blazer, but would be careful about trying to match too heavy a fabric with the cotton. Your next purchase might be some gray or brown flannel trousers to dress up the outfit.

Enjoy!

Brown tweed jacket.

the pratt knot doesnt appear any smaller then the windsor knot that he tied.

Try a Half-Windsor, or a FIH
