"quality shoes on ebay" question

I see the (long) list of shoe manufacturers and links to ebay. Wen I try to further refine it once on ebay (to narrow down the 5792 listings to say, the onces in my shoe size!) the basic and advanced searches don;t work to accomplish the task. Suggestions? Maybe I am missing something simple...

for me i have several bookmarks in my Favorites on my browser linked up to all the listings of Santoni, Vass, Edward Green, and Lobb.

i do a general search (no particular size) for each of these as they only have about a total of 50-100 listings for each of these at any given time anyways. and also, lot of times these makes dont necessarily follow standard sizing, the seller may have listed it wrong, or it was listed in UK sizing or something else.

e.g. just type in "santoni" for a search in Clothing and accessories and it will give you a list of options on the leftside whether you want clothing or women's clothing, or men's shoes, etc. click on shoes.

My hope was to be able to get (for example) all of the 10.5 D listings of the whole lot of makers on the sf list.... then maybe pair that list back to get rid of the "too Italian" shoes.

Fracmeister, you can make and save a search on eBay, For example here is a search of some of the SF list shoes in 10.5.

I think you'll need a few lists, though, since for example John Lobb shoes in U.S. 10.5 may or may not be listed as 9.5, to give only one example. If you make, tweak and save a few lists you'll be able to quickly browse the options.

I'm going to make an eBay search from the list of the SF comprehensive shoemakers list and add it here in a bit, since it's probably something other people would use too. If it works well I can add to the sticky later.

This was hairier than I thought it would be.

Here is my first attempt at an eBay search for the so-called SF quality shoes makers. You'll have to chose "men's shoes", then your size as search refinements. Set your expectations occordingly though, it's a work in progress.

I found this difficult with my meager tech skills. For one, eBay's site tends to truncate query lines and drop search arguments and parameters, so that each would-be-simple-step required workarounds. In some cases you can enter your search argument directly into search forms, in other cases no. Another issue, at least for, is when refining your search - for instance specifying a shoe size - I got browser error messages. Refreshing the page, or hitting F5 usually fixed this but occassionally didn't (it would sometimes go back to a general search). There were other problems, but my intent is not bore you to death.

Here are my suggestions.
1. Refine the list a bit. For instance I don't really want to see the Allen Edmund hits, so I dropped it.
2. Be patient. This is not going to work flawlessly for you, it certainly doesn't for me.
3. When in doubt, refresh.
4. Once you've got a nice list, save your search. Or give it a try anyway.

Someone with better skills could make this an iron-clad search tool, no doubt. I ended up doing most of my testing at the address line rather than using forms.

I was able to get 150 returns for my size from the list (minus AE), and I saw some shoes I was previously unfamiliar with - which was cool.

I hope that this is useful to at least one person, besides myself.

I usually do what I think you are trying to do. I click on the View all xxxx items on eBay link at the bottom of the B&S page. In the page that comes up I click the check box next to my size and then after the page reloads I just see for my size. I'm a 10.5 and it narrows things down to about 500 listings.

The check box thing is new. I used to select my size from a drop down list. With the old way you usually had to click the button below where you refined the search. If you hit return or enter on your keyboard it usually wouldn't work. Also, I found that sometimes it didn't work the first time but was usually fine on the second try.

I just noticed the checkbox options are there in Safari, but Firefox still has the dropdown menus. This is on a Mac. Will check on a PC next time I am near one.

If you can get one that is working I'd appreciate the link. Maybe you could copy it to tinyurl.com and make one that is easy to share....although I'd keep AE and modify to those 10.5 D s and can some of the pointy toed Italian jobs....
