Proper sleeve width on a suit

I'm currently having a suit tailored. Just had the first fitting so there were no sleeves yet. I'm just wondering what people consider to be an appropriate width for the sleeves on a jacket. I've noticed that the standard OTR often have looser sleeves whereas the suits that I've seen and liked tend to have narrower sleeves that give some shape to the wearer's arms. I mentioned this to my tailor and he said that narrow sleeves look good when your arms are straight but bunch too much when your arms are bent or raised. Either way, he said we could play around with sleeve width at the next fitting to find something that looked good but was also comfortable.

So my question is - what's a good guide for a well fitted sleeve? How narrow is too narrow? Pics would be a great help.

Thanks guys

I usually get my OTR sleeves slimmed at my tailor. I even had a Men's Wearhouse suit tailored which had very full sleeves. They came out really well (unlike the rest of the jacket). Sleeves are probably one of the most important parts of the jacket fit, though it is often overlooked and ignored.
