I am looking to buy my first pairs of boat shoes and was wondering which ones are the most versatile. I am going to wear jeans/chinos/shorts (black to light khaki)

I race sailboats and don't wear boat shoes. They are bad for actual sailing and generally worn by douchebags. Do some lurking for better shoes.

I wear Sperrys sometimes. They're OK quite comfortable, price is reasonable for what they are.. I don't have a boat though.

If that is the case, then what does the general populous wear for casual shoes? New Balance sneakers?
