this might sound conceited, but it's not, it's more of an observation...

At my high school, i'm one of the very very few guys that doesn't dress in a&f/ae/hollister garbage from head to toe *or at all*, and has the sense to buy clothes & shoes that fit properly. I'm not the only one who notices, all my girl friends and most of my guy friends say they like my style.

Now...for the past few months, a couple of my friends have been essentially copying what I've been wearing, to an incredibly disturbing degree.

I buy AA flexfleece hoodie -> they buy in different colors (or the same, it happened)
I buy slim fitting dry denim -> they buy levi's 511s too small in dark washes
I buy slim AA shirts because I'm a scrawny bastard and that's all that fits-> they buy AA shirts that are too small (they're not exactly petite)
I buy patterned slip-ons -> they buy patterned slip-ons
I wear v-necks sweaters a lot -> they start wearing v-neck sweaters
I start saving money (remember, high school) for cheap mondays or apcs & tell them -> one buys cheap mondays (again, these aren't exactly slim people)...
I find a pair of old sean-connery-in-bond-esque swim trunks (you know, incredibly short) and wear them -> they both buy the AA ones (again they're not too slim)

WTF...

It's not a huge issue, but a lot of people have noticed (a girl friend of mine asked me once "where are your clones?") that they copy what I wear a lot, and it's more to save them the embarrassment than to give me any ego boost or anything.

How do I break it to them that they're copying what I'm wearing and everyone is noticing? It's great that they're starting to find clothes that fit...decently...at least, but they need to have their own style, not mine.

Help?

Start buying stupid things and wearing them, just to watch them do it... the joke is on them. Or even just say you want a certain thing: "man, that snakeskin hat is so dope I have to get one." Then when they buy it, you can mock them mercilessly, plus they will be out of money.

haha you sound conceited. its okay though. you are in high school. It's a vicious, petty place.

my advice is, don't be so judgmental. Yeah they didn't invent AA or Cheap Monday. But neither did you. You copied off someone else, right?

i wouldn't trip on kids 'copying' you. yeah i'm sure it'd annoy me too (i'm in HS also) but as said, i'd take it as they sort of envy me/you in a sense.

Tell them you're saving up for that ultra-cool International Male 'pirate shirt'. Sit back and wait for them to post a thread entitled "So people think I'm gay".

something about getting bent out of shape because people are copying your style strikes me as very juvenile. Oh wait...

As the saying goes, "Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery." Recommend you maintain your standards so that others (hopefully) will continue to catch on.

Imitation is the best form of flattery, you know. (edit- Droog beat me to it!!)
I second the idea of wearing stupid stuff and saying that you want some ugly piece of clothing, and then watch them buy it. Point and laugh.

i doubt you're the only person ever that buys and wears those items you mentioned. when did you start shopping at AA? did you see people wearing some AA items and decide to go there? then you "copied" them.
get over yourself. they think you look good and since they're still in highschool and trying to find their own style and **** they're taking cues from you.
