Peacoat as temporary overcoat substitute?

I don't have a proper overcoat yet; haven't found one that I like (with the search for higher armholes and all).

Might it be proper to use, say, a peacoat as a temporary overcoat substitute for something like a job interview?

I think if you'll try the pairing, you'll have your answer. Not a good look.

I think that it could look good. I am not sure what you are wearing it over, but a navy peacoat over a grey suit might look pretty stylish.

Do you have a lined raincoat--a classic trenchcoat, for example? That'll get you through December and give you more time to shop.

No. Perhaps for a casual evening out but a pea coat with a suit will not look nice for a serious thing like an interview. Just get a proper overcoat. I am seeing $200 ones in wool/cashmere around here these days. They won't last 25 years but will get you through a couple of Boston winters with no problem.

It wont look ideal but if its the only coat you have it'll look better than nothing assuming the jacket of your suit doesn't stick out from underneath. If thats the case, leave it at home.

IMO nevermind the search for high armholes and whatnot and just buy an overcoat.

I've worn a wool slim peacoat over a suit; however, I draped it over my shoulders.

The peacoat is very au courant, but I don't think it is an acceptable substitute for a topcoat (at least for anything for which you would be wearing a tie). Casual blazer with jean or khakis - yes. Suit - no.

It could work, you just have to make sure the peacoat is longer than the jacket.

Definitely, as long as the gentleman interviewing you has a sailor's cap on.

To fit a peacoat over a suit, you'd have to buy one in a size much too large. Then it wouldn't be suitable for its intended role. Just find a discount store and pick up an overcoat.

You are in Boston, no? If it isn't raining or snowing... then to hell with it. Go without the topcoat-- it really is a pain in interviews.

I think high armholes are less relevant for overcoats than for a suit. Just do what j says.
