Having owned an officially issued U.S. Navy one, I can say that the coat was definitely warm, but I felt it was too short (prefer the full length officer's coat I added to my gear after being commissioned) and the collars were a little bulky.

I remember owning a decent pea coat "replica" from J. Crew a while back.

My experience real pea coats (including Sterlingwear) is that, while they keep you warm while sailing around the Cape of Good Hope (or where ever), they are not necessarily right for the city streets in which most of us wear them.

I have a nice peacoat in great condition from Schneider's of Austria that I got from a member here that is too short in the arms for me. It measures to roughly a 40R. PM me if you want to take it off my hands. Looking for somewhere around $50.

i have a Dior peacoat that is very, very nice, and cost me an arm and a leg. i'm actually trying to see if someone in B&S will take it off my hands, but it's not returnable so i guess i will keep it for the occasional travel to wintry climates if no one buys it.

with that said, i'm not sure what distinguishes a $2000 peacoat from others. yes, the wool is awesome and if you like the cut of the designer, that's gotta be worth something. but i'm not sure what else you get, other than the Dior label of course

What would be more appropriate?

+1. I've had a J Crew one for three winters now. It is as warm as hell and has taken a beating like a tank. The armholes are also pleasingly small. I am planning on replacing the buttons with large smoked MOP; the coat will rule when that's done.
