We are in need of patio furniture that can remain outside year round and survive hot and humid summers and freezing cold winters. Ideally we would like a rectangular table for six. I'm a fan of of painted (black) cast iron but can potentially be talked into something else. Can anybody suggest a manufacturer who makes decent patio furniture and adequately weatherproofs it? Thanks, H_S.

Cast iron is attractive, but you will have to spend time and money to keep it rust-free. That will mean lots of hand work at prep and painting probably every season, particularly if it is going to be exposed to lots of moisture. Cast iron furniture was made when iron was cheap and aluminum was rare and expensive. I doubt anyone would choose it today as a metal for outdoor furniture over aluminum. I suggest cast or extruded aluminum that is powder coated in a dark finish that will resemble cast or wrought iron, much less trouble and far greener. If you are buying high end, Brown Jordan is a good make. I have read good things about Tropitone also. Even the cast aluminum patio furniture you get at places like Costco can be OK. If you found a set that was in a color you didn't like, it might even be worth taking it to a powder coating shop and having it blasted and coated in a finish you did want. You might also do the same thing with used patio furniture.

You may want to visit Wholesale Furniture Brokers. I have recently bought our patio furniture there at a discounted price. Their customer service is great. They can help you out with the right furniture that suits your needs. What's more, they are on sale now! So, why not take advantage of the sale price. You can visit their website here Patio Furniture
