Pant waist alteration, normal or poor?

I recently found a new tailor and has been asking him to take in on some of my older trousers. The finished job I noticed is different than my previous tailor in that the waistband always seems to have a slight "V" shape and the belt loops not straight on the waistband. I didn't ask him about it, but I do feel the finished waistband should be perfectly straight and the belt loops perpendicular as that is what a new pant would look like. So, is this a poor job or maybe my tailor is trying to form the waistband to how I wear the pant? If it is a poor job, I just don't see how hee doesn't notice this.

It is making the V shape because he is sewing across the waistband at an angle. From the waistband seam to the top of the waistband the seam should run perpendicular to the top and bottom edge of the waistband. This will create a straight line across the top edge of the waistband.

The V shape is a pet peeve of mine, strongly dislike the look of it,

Absolutely not normal. Waistband should be perfectly straight across. Belt loops straight up and down.

What is normal is a lot of tailors do it this way but tell him you would like the waistband to run straight after he takes in the waist. He may be having a difficult time if he has to take the waist in a lot and the seat not so much.

What Despos said. ... If I interpret the OP correctly you must mean an inverted "V" where the waist is smaller at the top of the waistband and the nearest belt loops angle toward the center.

That's exactly the description. He does other jobs well, but this must be a blind spot for him. Does anyone know if this could be a result of some sort of short cut in the tailoring process?

It's not a short cut it's just the way he does it and he doesn't consider the V shape result, just like chefs cook differently.
