Overcoats in Long Sizes?

Hi StyleForum! Long time anonymous lurker; first time posting. I'm looking to purchase a winter overcoat, something I've never bought or shopped for before now.

I'm 6'4" 200 lb. Suit size is 42/44 Long/Extra Long, depending on cut and style. (e.g. Lapels tend to pop up on 42 in slimmer styles, but 44 in non-slim styles are usually too big in the shoulders; some slimmer models need the "Extra Long", if available, for sleeve length.) Arm length is 27" and shirt sleeve size is 37.

Looking online, I have seen almost no overcoats in long sizes. I realize we're currently past the winter shopping season, but I don't even see long sizes listed as "out of stock" -- just not listed at all. Am I crazy? Blind? Just not searching the right places? Or do overcoat makers just not make long sizes like they do for suit jackets and sport coats? And I assume there isn't much (if any) material to lengthen most overcoat sleeves, correct?

Specifics on the overcoat I'd like: navy blue, single-breasted, knee-length or just-above-knee-length, no concealed front buttons, notched lapel, no belt or half-belt, some cashmere is okay but not 100% cashmere, new or very gently used, price $1000 or less (but I'd make an exception for something exceptional).

Anything you guys can do to help me out would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! :)

There are a number of made to measure companies who are sponsors of this forum. I would start there and see what you can find.

Burberry makes a number of overcoat options that come below the knee. On sale such a coat would get close to your price point. New & Lingwood, too.

I feel your pain. Men's overcoats have been getting shorter and shorter in the last decade or so, which is a real problem if you're taller and want to have a classic style overcoat. That said, if you persist you can find something off the rack.

Sleeves can be lengthened maybe 1 inch, but it of course depends on the coat. I've had this done a few times.

Your search would be easier if you'd be willing to relax the other criteria. For example, see the 'King Coat' from Crombie (double-breasted) and the 'Cashmere Topcoat' from Private White VC (charcoal, hidden buttons, etc). Both should reach your knee. Also check O'Connell's, some of their coats look long (no size information on website).

Have you been to 'big & tall' shops? They should have your size, though the quality might not be what you're looking for, judging by your budget.

Thrifting is another option. Coats used to be longer in the 80s and 90s, I think.

Lastly, your budget should be able to accommodate MTM. Ask around.

Good thread! Yes it’s very difficult to find a long overcoat these days. They’re annoying to travel in and not that warm but they look great.

Some good suggestions here, especially o’connells. But I would say definitely check eBay , I picked up an incredible alpaca overcoat in perfect condition for peanuts. It must have cost a few grand new.
