Opinions on Bespoke suit tailor vs Branded suits (especially in Italy)

Hey guys, I'm a 20M and I'm in need of a nice suit, preferably a high-end one that'll last me my lifetime. I'm visiting Verona and Venice for 5 days, and am debating whether to buy a suit from a bespoke suit tailor or a branded one. Does anyone have any advice either which one is recommended, or any suit tailors or Italian suit companies. Have found a lot of videos on it so would like everyone's personal recommendations and thoughts. Many thanks

5 days is not enough to have a bespoke suit made in most cases. At very best, if you are super prepared and send measurements and agree on fabric ahead of time, you can get a fitting when you arrive and a second before you leave, but that requires significant experience. Realistically: You might be able to squeeze in a basted fitting before you leave, then they'd either send the suit to you for a second fitting, or they'd go straight to finish and send you the finished suit, then you'd work with a tailor locally to adjust it (unless they come state-side, or you go back).

With 5 days and not already owning good suits and knowing the process, your best bet is an OTR suit plus local *rush* tailoring, or just pack it home and tailor it at home.

ciao, about bespoke suits, please also consider that bespoke is an experience to live. I agree with gimpwiz, in 5 days you can maximum have one fitting. Usually, when suit is the first, at least two fittings are required. The first one to see how measurments work (so the first one is for the tailor), the second one to value all other elements like pockets position, lining inside, and often still the suit needs to be alterated. I don’t know tailor shops in that zone, because I’m from Naples, but if you need help also to communicate, you can find me here.

Good things from Salmon Crompton of Permanent Style and from Alfredo di Giglio of Stilemaschile. Both have extensive experience with the best tailors in Italy. Check out instagram and you will be able to see Pasinato’s work. In Venice you also have Franco Puppato. He is a master but won’t be cheap.

It depends from the tailor. Some tailor can also start working this way, but the jacket you send has to fit perfectly. The most important thing is that you already have the new fabric you want (ordered by distance trough the tailor or bought by you). If you already have fabric and you stay in Naples for few days, you can also do an agreement with the tailor and get measurments during the first day and the first fitting the day after ( this way the tailor can work directly on your measurments and on your body postures and this is the best option always). Solito made it work for me in five days (albeit one fitting, but I'm not that tough a fit) and he was in London for two of the days.

OP, where do you live? Might be easier to go to NYC where a lot of tailors from Italy travel regularly.

A few. What peaks my interest is the 2 I’m thinking of are old masters. In a way, it’s a piece of tailoring history that won’t be available going forward.

Wish I had been old enough to order from bill fiovratti in Manhattan. But I have 3 main tailors who I’ll always use.
