for 20 years, I have had the same habbit - I buy a large amount of white cotton handkerchiefs, I carry them as pocket squares until such time as I actually use it - to wipe sweat, tears or snot, and then I shift it to another pile which is carried in my pants pocket. so, effectivly I have two handkerchiefs with me, one for show (and backup) and one for blow. it has also meant that if I ever needed to lend a handkerchief to soomebody, I could pull out a perfectly new clean handkerchief and had no problem telling them they could keep it.

anyway - last night my wife looks over at my breast pocket and, I guess for the first time, notices that it is a simple white handkerchief. so she says "is that a regular handkerchief?" and I tell her the system, which she promptly vetos and tells me to get some pocket squares.

so, the system is being shelved. it had a good run.

If you get some of the sturdier linen ones, you could continue the system, (that is) also launder them quite hard.

Fellow SFer, Kent Wang, also has quite a nice collection in cotton, linen, and silk. I'm getting two for my B-day and I can't wait to start stuffing them in my breast pocket.

Kent Wang is the cat to see for pocket squares and snazzy cufflinks.
