Hi everyone,

First post here, I'm usually a lurker, and in all likelihood it's a very stupid question, but...I'm trying to put together a wardrobe, and I'm intrigued by the custom tailor shops that you read about in countries like Japan, Vietnam, China, etc. where you can have custom-made suits made for incredible prices, like $150-200 for a suit. Particularly because I am on a tight clothes budget and can't afford nice suits otherwise. Unfortunately, I won't be near Asia anytime soon so I can't take advantage of any of these places. I did find out, however, that I will be traveling through Mexico/Latin America, and maybe even South America, in several months. My question is whether you can get custom-made suits for cheap in any of these countries like you can in Asia. I know latin/south america isn't known for their tailors, but I imagine that there are people in need of high-quality clothes in these places, so I thought I'd ask...in particular, a country like Argentina seems very fashionable and European, and I know that the country is popular among budget travelers...but I'm interested in Mexico, Peru, Guatemala, etc. as well.

Thanks!
Luke

Can anyone help me out

Some tailors from HK go to the United States, like WW Chan. You could check their websites out.

If your travels take you to Lima, Peru, I would strongly reccomend Casa Espana.

Custom suits in Zegna, LP and Dormeuil at approx. 450-650.
Custom shirts from Thomas Mason fabrics for $40 per.
Baby alpaca custom overcoats and sportcoats for $250.

The construction is excellent and avoids the S.American penchant for stiff, fused garments. They take measurements and have a muslin fitting w/in 24 hours; then a partially constructed canvas lining within another 24 hours; and a finished garment for final adjustment after another 48 hours.

Casa Espana
Pasaje Los Pinos 173
Miraflores
241-4444
