The rumor is that with the release of the new iPhone, AT&T will no longer offer the $30 unlimited data plan and will instead offer a $25 2GB data plan (who the **** knows how much the overage charges will be)!!!!

a) If you have unlimited data, you can keep it.
b) This is a dick move probably aimed at preventing people from illegal tethering.

Can't really blame them. If subscribers don't move to other carriers in droves, others will follow suit with ATT.

RTFA. New prices go into effect June 7.
For the 2GB plan, it's $10 for another GB.

Verizon just sent me a letter informing me that I can use my Palm as a mobile hotspot for free, and do not have to pay $40/month to do that. Since I'll be traveling for the rest of the week, that's nice. And good timing.

This. I'm not a hardcore user, so I'd actually be fine with 2GB per month anyway but I'm glad I'm grandfathered in to unlimited.

There's an article today from Wired magazine arguing that unlimited phone plans (everything!) will probably max out at $60/mo in the near future. At the end of the day, it'll all be data -- voice, text, web, etc. AT&T is just milking the public sympathy for all it's worth. If enough people tell them to **** off, then move to Verizon or Sprint, they'll go back to their original pricing quickly enough.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
