I have gotten a handful of DKNY ties.
  1. Perfect width of 3.25".
  2. The price is right ($15-$20, Daffy's, Ebay, etc)
  3. I like the colors/styles.
#1 I like as something a little different, but hope it doesn't come off as "Burberry"-like. #2 is one of my favorite ties. (Versatile enough for work and for socializing) I am not too sure about #3 & #4, however. (red and blue) I got them b/c of the width and price, but I have a dozen other ties that are more stylish. But for $15/ea., it might just be easier to keep them. Would you return #3 and #4?

I have one of their ties in gray. It makes a nice knot, so I use it a lot.

If you like the look, why not? If not, go ahead and return 'em. With my personal tastes and tie collection, I would keep 1,2, and 3 and return 4. But that's just my taste and has to do with my current collection. Yours will be different on both counts.

It's a tie. Nothing more then a strip of colored fabric that allows you to introduce some colors and patterns into an outfit. If you like the colors and patterns of a tie, it's a good tie. If you don't, it's a bad tie.

Would suggest you try out one nice high-end tie and see if you still feel that way.

The red is just a little too generic.
However, maybe some days you just need a nondescript tie for work.
But, the 3.25 width now compensates for a LOT (including a bland style)
I now truly LOATHE wearing ties that I feel are too wide. (3.5 or more)
I have even started giving away some nice Brooks Bros. striped ties b/c they are 3.75

A tie serves absolutely no function apart from making things look nice. Cheap or expensive, that doesn't change.

I have a high end tie or two. They can be a little more comfortable then cheap ones, but comfort depends much more on the collar of the shirt then the tie IMO. They may use nicer fabrics that might look a little bit nicer. That does not change the fact that they serve all of two purposes: to look nice and to get caught in machinery.

The biggest issue I have with cheaper ties is that they tend to look, for lack of a better word, flacid. If you can find one that knots nicely and has good structure, wear it. Who gives two ***** where it's made and by whom.

I thought the same a few years ago. Again, just a suggestion. Do what you will.

I have a bunch of high-end ties, and some low-end ones as well. Bought a couple of low-end ones just the other days. There are plenty of shoddy low-end ties out there, but some nice ones, too. You just have to know what to look for.

With most expensive ties, you're paying for prestige and the latest trends in thickness/silks/etc. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't mean the tie will last longer or wear better than its inexpensive brethren.

Exactly! Even more, you have to know what you like. For example, I can't stand seven-fold ties -- I just don't feel like they tie up right. Not a big fan of outrageously thick and heavy ties, either -- nor tissue-paper-thin ties.

For width, thickness, weight, and design, I'm a big Charvet fan. Paul Stuart grenadines, too.

If you like these DKNY ties, rock them. I would not consider them "inferior" ties.

To clarify, I do not consider these inferior ties.
They probably retailed for $50 (not that that means much)
I'm just saying I like this particular designer, b/c they're all 3.25, 100% silk, offer nice designs, etc.
I think they're a great value.

Yeah, go for it. I have one DKNY tie that I rather like. Got it at Filene's Basement for something like $15.
