Another question? I hear the break in proceed can be painful. Which style would be the easiest to break in?

I wore mine a few hours last night. I don't think the break in would be any worse than any other shoe/boot. The key is getting dialed in on the proper fit, initially.

Hi. I'm trying to gather some info about the RUI last. Reading here and there, it seems that a half size down would be ideal, being a wider last. Would appreciate some help.

My two cents:

TL;DR: Downsized 0,5 from Rui to Hiro - resulted very tight shoe. Any similar or converse experiences? Been wanting to get a pair on the Elton - but which size?

My sizing experience, might be useful for others:

Carmina Forest (Boot): 8,5UK
Perfect with thicker socks - has to be tied very tightly with normal socks. Eats a lot of laces and closes completely around ankle.

Loake Capital (Aldwych): 8,5UK
Best fitting shoe I own, especially when new. Has stretched a little since.

Meermin Rui (Boot): 9UK
Way to roomy in all directions. Needs thickthick socks and very firm lacing. Chews through laces like gum. Led to my next purchase below.

Meermi Hiro (Oxford) 8,5UK
Just got these, and like the boots above they were very stiff out of the box (and on a Danite sole). But worse - they are sooooo tight. Was able to squeeze in using a shoehorn and thin running sock, but it was quite the struggle. Lengthwise they are close to acceptable, but over the foot in front of the lacing it is way to tight. Unsure what to do. Returns are such a hassle due to local customs. Hoping my local cobbler might be able to stretch them just enough.

Update: after some hard stretching the Hiro is now wearble for full day use

You went the opposite way for most people from Rui to Hiro, why? And why did you size up from capital?

I would generally recommend 0.5 down from US brannock for hiro and Elton, and 1 full down (aka regular UK TTS) for Rui. Things change if your feet are narrow

I'd say go TTS with RUI. Im a US8 and 7UK on the RUI fits perfect for me. Sizing down to 6.5 would have been tight. Better a bit wider than tight I say, easier to compensate with small paddings or inserts like what I did with my 7.5UK on the Hiro. Hope this helps!

I went for my usual size in the Rui, 9.5 UK. I think I might be able to fit in the 9 UK but maybe my toes would be tight.

The one that fits you. I have had shoes that were painful to break in and took a few weeks of generating blisters, and shoes that were a little stiff but utterly painless, and the difference wasn't the last or the style, just the initial fit.

Sounds like I may need to find a pre worn. Thanks man.

I would advise against pre worn, as the construction and cork filling, as well as the leather itself molds to your own foot shape over time. If pre worn I'd probably go for a pair that has had only a few wears on them. As painful as the break in is, the end result is worth it in my option :)

Something to think about for sure.
