Hi..looking for a nice pair of shoes to do hospital rounds in. Will be standing on my feet most of the day, so comfort is of upmost importance. Semi-dressy would be nice, something appropriate with a white coat and dress pants. Looking around 100 dollars, will be willing to spend more if its a good investment.

Any ideas?

I would like to recommend any of the classic Bostonian styles that have the 2pod comfort system. Their Regal model is a good starting point:

Just one pair? Given that most of your colleagues will be wearing KC's and the like, I wouldn't worry too much - just don't wear trainers or anything overtly 'fasionable'. Comfort is obviously important but a pair of properly fitting/fitted dress shoes should not be uncomfortable. Don't spend too much (you know that already) - they'll get dirty and creased (when you kneel/bend down to do your examinations etc) quickly.

My dermatologist swears by these shoes :

http://www.swissmasaius.com/

They look funny, but if you are on your feet the whole day then I suppose they might be worth looking into.

Most nurses and surgeons I know wear clogs - Birkenstocks, or Danskos come to mind.

hope it helps,

I agree with the recommendation for SAS.

I would personally recommend SUPREMES. They are VERY similar to SAS both style wise and comfort wise. Actually, someone told me that they are made by the same manufacturer and that the name is a regional issue; SAS being marketed on the east coast and SUPREMES further west. I have had both, and I think that the SUPREMES are slightly more comfortable than the SAS.

Cheers,

Chaim

Amazon has some rubber soled Allen Edmonds dress shoes on sale for less than $100 right now. You might also check our Sierra Trading Post, which has tons of AE at the moment.

Ecco, Mephisto, AE, Johnston and Murphy would be brands I would look into.

My wife has the same issue, constantly on her feet in the hospital. She wears Dansko, Crocs, and Ecco.

I think Mephisto are the most comfortable for being on your feet all day. They are considerably more than $100 but will last a long time and can be resoled. You might also be able to find some on sale.

I was going to say 'SAS' as well , but a tailor and others beat me to it!!!

my parents have a couple pairs of SAS and i know others as well who work in nursing, other laborious jobs where they are on their feet all the time, and who cannot stand on their feet too long like my parents.

they all recommend SAS. not the greatest looking shoe. actually, it is real ugly. but it is a very good investment in COMFORT. it is well-known for comfort.

they all range at around a hundred dollars , please look into it.
