Chucks and hi-top classic vans are untouchable and awesome, for me anyway. Maybe you can describe what you like a little better?
I'm not sure what the diff. between shoes and sneakers is, but I know I don't want boots. I already have a pair of Chucks low-tops and I'm not too much of a fan of how thin they are.

I will never understand the love for common projects...overpriced cheaply made ugly shoes. A friend of mine (who got me into denim) has several pairs and people always ask him why he dresses so well but wears ugly shoes. They are extremely plain, thin, and boring. Who cares if they look classic if they don't look good they don't look good.

I don't think they look like basketball shoes, very similar to the YSL or Dior Homme hi-tops. They also have other high-top designs, like the hi-tops with the chelsea boot band on the side:
