I need something to wear that will take a beating $5000 or less. It has to be very sporty looking as I dont want it to be similar to my dress watch. Definitely want to buy used. Was considering a Rolex submariner but wasnt crazy about the colors they come in. Also the Cartier Roadster chrono but not sure if it can take a beating. Any other suggestions? comments on my selections?

Subs are nice but a bit common. What about a yachtmaster for a few more dollars?

eh I would rather save some money and get a sub. Had a yachtmaster once but dont have it anymore. I want something new. I am also thinking about getting a larger watch... the only thing I love about the sub is that it is submersible... everything else about it is just plain nice but nothing special. I need more options...

Oh, and should you ever feel like getting your ass blown off by a shotgun, the CX will apparently survive whereas you may not:

NICE!!! But I have never heard of CX and I would think it would be difficult to find a buyer if I decide to resell

Explorer II. It's been my beater for more than 8 years. It's taken a lot of knocks and still looks spanking new. Rolex service is the best out there as well. Great staff, great communication and great price too.

yeah... not crazy about the color schemes. Everybody has the black and stainless one. I would prob get the stainless and gold with blue bezel... and I am still not crazy about the colors! I am so confused!

Any Oyster based watch is a good bet. Take a look at GMT, Explorer, etc and different vintages - there are a ton of options for every model from face color/material, hour markings, and bezel style. I'm a fan of the Sub in SS/gold w/ blue face but it is "common" if that is an issue for you.

I have an Air King which is the starter Rolex, it is my daily watch and I only remove it if I'm doing heavy excercise/lifting. The SS band has a beautiful patina from wear and the crystal on mine is unblemished after 10 years and I've whacked it pretty good against bricks, concrete, and son on - not sure if the models with date window would fair quite as well.

Another sweet watch is the Zenith El Primero Rainbow, my dad has this in his collection and it is the one I covet:

I think my dad's has a black case/band but I could be wrong it has been a while since I've seen it.

I know I am picky. Please bear with me
