Hi,

Bought some tan bass weejuns and have found that alot of articles and comments on loafers online seem to think socks and loafers is some kind of terrible crime, is it not just a trend?

Im not really keen on the sockless look so I was wondering if I could get some advice on what type/colour socks would work with them, was thinking burgundy/wine red with lightgrey or charchoal trousers

Cheers.

Socks with loafers are perfectly fine. If you are wearing them with long pants in a non-tropical setting, they are certainly preferred.

Those loafers specifically seem to be a bit more on the formal side (looks like a low profile leather sole, no contrast stitching). If you wear a more casual pair with shorts, then skip the socks.

For sock color, it really depends on the color of your pants.

Thanks for your reply, are there any pants/socks combinations that you think would would be safe bets/really good combinations with this color of loafers? I'm in my mid twenties at uni, and going for a smart casual look - won't be wearing them with a suit anytime soon.

Am I also right in thinking as a general rule, the color of the shoes should be the darkest in an outfit?

Khakis or any kind of tan to mid brown would be fine. Mid gray and lighter would work too.
