Anyway, ordered the rally boot. Way excited, will report back on how I like them.

My three old Frye Brando Engineers look that beaten up actually. The Mister Freedom is a nicer boot though, but not 4x the price nicer. Love the subtle burgundy undertones on them.

I'm giving the rally boots one last try and if it doesn't work I'm gonna pick up some engineer boots or loggers or something...

The Chippewa's you posted are nice imo. They remind me of Sidi On Roads which I use on the freeway. I've wanted a pair of Danner Fort Lewis boots for over ten years. Anyone here have any experience w/ them? If you want something dressy, you might get something from Rider Boot or Vass. For short urban commutes, I'm happy w/ a chukka or george boot. In a few months, I hope to receive a shell version of this pair from DWFII.

Looks like the rally boots are stocked out everywhere until end of may.

Soooo I can wait or buy a pair of regular engineer boots elsewhere, which I'm leaning towards (although, engineer boots seem somewhat more authentic than the rally boots - no velcro/zipper)

Thoughts?

Well I figured engineer's were out, since they are the obvious choice for a light duty motorcycle boot. I have a pair of the Chippewa Engineer's that I love. They only have the single layer of leather on top of the toes, but that shouldn't be a problem unless you're pretty sensitive. Have you considered harness boots?

There is something going on with Chippewa Engineers, they just don't look right with the new plasticy looking heel. So I broke down and bought Red Wing 2990 11" Engineer boots. As far as I can tell they are basically GT Engineers.. Let's hope they are not stocked out... UGH

hey, if you're going to throw down the money for the red wings, you might want to consider these
Whites Open Road. Everything I've heard says they're probably better built and in this case slightly cheaper than what you were considering.

Not crazy about the heel and overall style of those, I like the way the Red Wings look much better. But will keep it in mind if RWs don't work out...

If you're considering engineer boots, I suggest going with the Boss from Wesco. I have a pair. Never took care of them properly, but they're still going strong. The boots have logged lots of miles on old, leaky bikes, been covered in grime, mud, oil, etc. Wesco's rule.

Here are mine after 8 years and zero care:

I like the emphasis on 0 care, not even riding through puddles to rinse them?

Well, they're saturated with motor oil (yay, old Brit bikes!), so they're essentially waterproof!

i have a pair of these in brown with cat paw soles. i could not agree more. while they may cost twice what the red wings or chippewas do, the quality is tenfold and they will last you a really long time.
