I have read the AE apparel thread and some of the AE appreciation thread.

As a shoe guy what intrigues me most is how AE is steadily evolving it's brand while expanding it's market.
I remember my Father's AE's, nothing I would wear when I was in my mid-20's nor, did I see anything in their catalogs that interested me.

Now at the age of 57 I can go into an AE shop with my 26 year old son and we can both find stuff that we would wear for any occasion. Work, leisure, sport or, more formal. Plus, there are some styles that we each want in our closets.
With quality materials, workmanship and, great customer service, their price-points continue to be a very good value.

It appears with their new apparel line that they are focused on more of an updated traditional product/look, not the typical navy blue blazer that you can find anywhere.

Like their styles or not Allen Edmonds is truly emerging from a one dimensional shoe company into a multi-demensional brand without losing focus of their core customers.

No question they will continue to manufacture in the U.S.

That's part of the pride and prestige of the company. It always has been.
There was a time when the corridor between N.Y.C. and Maine was the main hub for U.S. shoe manufacturers. It was sort of like what North Hampton is to the British shoe manufacturers. In addition to the manufacturing of U.S. shoes most of the components and materials needed for the manufacturing of foot-wear were processed in that area as well. Labor was also plentiful in order to accommodate the industry.
Costs and expenses rapidly increased. Most companies were either forced to close down or move off-shore. Add to that the quality of U.S. workmanship began to decline not just in the shoe industry but in general. The reputation for U.S. made goods was severly (and deservedly so) damaged.

AE managed to withstand the negative impact all of this had on U.S. manufacturing being totally committed to it's belief in U.S. labor and manufacturing. The odds were against them even in terms of getting the necessary products needed to make a quality product and being able to produce and compete at a fair price-point.

Now the trend is changing....Quality U.S. manufacturing is in resurgence. Pride and prestige is returning. You see and hear it in more and more in advertisements these days.

Most of you may know AE entered into an agreement with an Asian firm to start opening stores because of the demand for quality made products made here in the U.S.

They are now extending there belief, confidence and, commitment to apparel and leather accessories.

You bet, they are staying and growing right here in the U.S.
