Got a nasty collar ring on my suede jacket from sweat and body oils. Has anyone here run into a similar issue? Any suggestions on how to clean it up? Or How to Stop Worrying and Embrace the Patina?

That's pretty much par for the course with suede. If you want, you can treat it to a suede waterproofer, like you would with your shoes. A cleaning expert once told me that sometimes those things can leave ring marks if you don't apply them correctly. I haven't had that happen, but I mostly spray down suede jackets to protect them from spills. The back of the collar, however, will always get a bit oily and dirty, as you would see on any absorbant material (e.g. a cotton shirt).

Thanks dww. Well at least it’s comforting to know I’m not filthy nor did I ruin my jacket. It’s just on the collar, I’m not sweating it too hard. I just won’t pop it.

This is one of my favorite all time posts.

I have a new pair of century denim sitting on my chair that sometimes I lift up and gently stroke, like a beloved family pet. Then I put my horsehide rider on and do my daily crunches to firm the abs and tone my creases.

Im so oily
I have four suede jackets and finally made peace with my oily skin. Also, take comfort in the fact that no one really sees it except you, and only when you take it off.
To keep it at bay, because vanity, I either wear a scarf or turtleneck, or pop the collar of my work shirt. Otherwise, chalk it up to patina, and throw some burrata on it for good measure (I did, accidentally).

I personally cherish the oil and wear marks on my suede. I find it aesthetically pleasing.

The only downside I see is that your resale value probably goes down, but it shouldn’t matter if you truly love the piece.

It never occurred to me but could you treat the interior collar with something like Nano spray for shoes? Not sure I'd want that chemical against my skin but it certainly does a good job at repelling stains.

Note, I don't own a suede jacket...and after reading @dieworkwear's hilariously accurate description above, I don't plan to buy one. I'm not going to end up like the rest of you consumers...

:hide:...OK maybe its too late for me.
