I am planning to lay down some carpet squares (50 x 50cm x 1 cm) over some hardwood floor as I need to soundproof a room.

Anyone have any tips or warnings?

A nice thick carpet will be good for you. If you are planning on keeping it for long time I would like to suggest that you can try wool carpet. Wool carpets are always better because they are natural and also stain resistant. What  most people don't know is that wool carpet are are fire resistant.

Wow, this thread is 4 years old and I don't remember writing it. Probably, I was just hoping someone would follow up with a joke about "laying".
