Lacing - straight or cross?

I just picked up these old Grensons second hand. Excuse the jeans. but would it be a big no no to cross lace these? They came that way. I tried straight "dealer" lacing but I can't decide if it looks better, or like I was just too lazy to relace them for 20 years.

I use straight lacing with bals, criss-cross with bluchers. Each style of lacing seems to go better with its respective shoe. Since your Grensons are bals, I strongly recomment straight.

Because they split open, dealer lacing looks bad. There's a way to cross lace them so that laces only show across the top. That's what I'd do. Check Ian's shoelace site for how to do it.

Or, X-lacing (or X-I-X) would be cool too.

Sound advice. Definitely my choice.

Yes, that's what I mean. Try it on one and see what you think. I might try J's suggestion of X-I-X rather than the I-X-X as pictured, though. If you're going to use them in a more formal business setting then I'd go with straight lacing. Whatever I did, it wouldn't be over/under.

I like straight lacing on all my shoes. I just think it looks nicer.

For 5 eyelets I like X-X-I, that way when you tie your laces the 'I' gets covered and you only see the X-X which looks cool.

Okay Im going to try this tonight. XXI. Actually since I have 6 eyelets its more like IXXI I tried the straight lacing with no crossing underneath, but it is kind of a pain to loosed and tighten the shoes, I bought these to toss around so I'm not going to do that.
