Knitwear - stretch or shrink

So regarding wool is it best to buy a jumper very fitted so it'll give with wear or buy a little big so it shrinks ? Whats the rule of thumb you guys use when buying high end knitwear such as smedley etc

You should be doing nothing to wool that would shrink it. Additionally, a quality garment should not "stretch" so much that you'd want to buy a smaller size to compensate.

So I guess that makes my answer: buy the proper fit.

And avoid the drier if the tag says so...
