Ketchup: Heinz or Hunt's?

I've always bought Heinz and it's usually the ketchup served in restaurants. It's the one I grew up with.

Recently, I picked up a bottle of Hunt's for a camping trip because it was cheaper and the store-brand ketchup came in too large a bottle. I've never really opted for Hunt's, I've always found it kind of vinegary and runny, and not as good as Heinz. It's always been deemed a half-step above generic brand, a Heinz knock-off trying to steal market share with a better value proposition. I guess that's the power of branding.

Anyways, the Hunt's made its way back to my fridge and has been sitting there for a while. I have a bottle of Heinz in there too. I broke both out this evening to eat with turkey burgers.

I have to say, I think I like Hunt's more. It's got an assertiveness that my adult palate really likes. It's sharper, tart, almost sour without overwhelming the sweetness. The vinegary flavor I didn't care for as a kid is now a 'vinegar-forward profile' that I actually might prefer over the sugary Heinz. Heinz is probably "safer" tasting for the majority of people, especially for kids who probably consume the most ketchup, but I think I just became a Hunt's convert.
