I'm pretty sure a commercial directed by Baz Luhrmann featuring Nicole Kidman is expensive and the ad in every women's fashion magazine each month and at a bus stop can add up.

However, the thing is I highly doubt Chanel pays for any of that and it is all through Coty or whoever controls the fragrance license. So in essence you are right that they just get to sit back and collect royalties; but, it is costing someone to produce the campaign.

Actually, I can't find it anywhere that they sell the name so they may in fact own and operate all of their fragrances.

Chanel is an institution and like every institution is playing on its name and fame...
Coco has long departed and Chanel a universal symbol of luxury when some many maisons de couture have closed or sold their sols to survive...
They're spending a comfortable amount of money on ads , sponsoring and others media but not more than the other big names....
Lagerfeld is very astute ,being also assiciated with bigg names such as Nicole kidman,,Selma Blair , Vanessa Paradis,Carole Bouquet,Elle Macpherson ,Claudia Schiffer,Naomi Campbell and so many others...

I think the guy did a great job losing so much weight at his age, and his new look is very stylish and well thought out.

When he was young, he apparently wore bespoke Caraceni, etc, and I think that helps him today in his designs.

Today, I can`t think of any luxury brand better than Chanel. Chanel is the top of the pyramid and the other brands look to Chanel designs for their coming seasons. It is a big brand, so some of the stuff every season is silly and just marketing junk that casual buyer might decide to buy, but a lot of the stuff is still very classic and modern. Every season there is something worth buying.

Someone mentioned the stupid high boots and ultra mini-skirts in the recent seasons, but no regular Chanel customer buys the clothes in that combination. That is just for show.

I agree with our Doc Muller regarding current Chanel collections. Completely insipid. Frankly, the Galliano for Dior things are redundant as well. That 60th anniversary collection was tacky and those Belle Epoque gowns have been referenced more times than a black man has been pulled over in a Lexus.

That is hardly shocking seeing as you are our Doc Muller.

I didn't see the last collection but the Galliano show was more a show than a fashion defile...
Versailles Galerie des glaces or how to put some Baroque presentation in a somptuous gallery and getting away with it ,or not actually....

Dear, his jewelry does not look cheap at all. In fact, few can afford it. Call it vintage.
I find your wife comments... funny.

Can't wait for doc's response after almost 5 years of silence. :lurk: You certainly told him.

Can't believe someone can make some really nice pieces, but wear the shitest trash themselves.
