Most people on here will tell you to go with Carbons for black JE denim, but Onyx is great if you like the whiskering details and are okay with a slightly looser fit overall. Obsidians are also great if you want a jet black pair.

Disagree on Obsidians being great if you want a jet black pair. Obsidians fade sooooo fast and within 10 wears you’ll start seeing the white weft come out. If he’s looking for black enough denim that STAYS black, go with Carbons.
