I just wanted to know whether a steamer was a steamer of if Jiffy steamers were superior in anyway. I live in China and there are lots of locally produced steamers (Jiffy could be made here and probably is for all I know) that are 1/4 price of Jiffy.

Should I shell out USD 190 for a Jiffy or just buy something here for USD 50. What am I getting for the extra money if I buy a Jiffy.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

If the construction of the locally produced steamers seems OK, save the money. There's no serious technology involved in a steamer.

I used something called the "Euro Steamer" the other day -- basically looks like a plastic iron -- and it blew away the Jiffy steamer I used to have (which was top of the line at the time). I'd highly recommend it.

What model of the Euro Steamer are you using? Had a look at some of their products on Amazon and reviews were not very good.

You may want to stop using the Euro steamer. I was Googling it when I came across this information on the UK Trading Standards website. Seems that they are dangerous to use.

Trading Standards Seize Unsafe Irons

Wirral Trading Standards are warning consumers to check their irons after seizing 69 Super Steam irons that do not comply with electrical safety requirements.
Electrical safety tests carried out by an accredited laboratory shows that a sample of the product failed to comply with the Electrical Equipment Safety Regulations. They identified problems with missing safety warnings, excessive handle and body temperatures, instability and a failure to meet the requirements of a spillage test.

Additionally the electrical standard states that electrodes shall not be used for heating liquids. This iron operates by passing current between two electrodes, which are in direct contact with salted water.

The irons were sold in boxes carrying a code number, 00001143, and also bore the following bar code,
8 021084 402018.

The irons have the following markings:

Type SOO1
230v - 1000w
110v - 500W

Super Steam by Euro
Made in Italy

Any consumers who have a Euro Super Steam iron matching this description should cease using it immediately.

There were also a couple of pictures and it matched the link you sent me.

Think I will go for the Jiffy in the end. I won't be using the steamer a lot - just every so often so should I go for the J-2000 (i.e. good enough for my needs) or fork out the extra for the J-4000?

Thanks

I actually prefer a little bit of electrical shock when steaming my clothes, but thanks for the warning.
