Thank you for sharing your knoledge. Yes, there are many sources of good eyewear, but, as I see, JMM was able to build almost a cult status, so that for me is difficult now to consider other brands.
The recently posted frames from Cutler&Gross look really attractive, but I would prefer if there were JMM on them. Before I knew JMM, I was a happy collector of Persol frames, but once I felt the substantial difference in Jerome's glasses, I can hardly ever consider other ones.
You’re a fan of Jacques Marie Mage?! Nah…really, you are? Never would I have guessed! 😉

Ya I wasn’t lying. Umit is god-tier to me.
You didn’t get all the Margiela x mykita as well?
Of course! Now their collab is with something called “gentle monster” and it’s bad bro… very bad

@Pechelman I personally really like brown. It's a true brown, no weird grey undertones. I have Xtractive brown lenses in my black acetate aviators, and they look and feel great to me.

I've a pair of black Dealans with sapphire transitions. They feel very grey as well, but with blue undertones.

I'd look into those two options.

@eddiemczee also has an article on transitions. I'm not sure if his are amethyst, but those might look nice with the black Herbie frames as well

Edit: Tumblr article won't post, but if you google "edwin zee transition lenses", it should show up.
Here is the link to the original post. I also just wrote a follow up, here. My lenses were actually sapphire but I recently decided to switch them to brown and I think I prefer it better.

That’s a running company so yeah, I imagine it’s wrap arounds and yellow lenses and lightweight functional stuff

Nothing interesting at all unfortunately. You’re lucky your favorite designer just went straight to the grain with JMM

I don’t think Margiela will do anything as cool as the C&G collab wrong size lens. My favorite non-JMM

Great post (the original and update on your site) thanks! I echo everything you've written. I have black Molino's, went with the G15 "grey/black" lens and really dislike them because of the color first and foremost. Black is great in the sun, but the light grey in transition mode is just an ugly color imo. So much so that I went back to my no scrip original lenses and keep as sunglasses. I'm also uncomfortable with the 5+ minutes to clear and honestly I don't think they fully ever go 100% clear more like 95%. I'm considering trying them again with amber but my god it's expensive.

Interesting, I also found that my sapphire lenses look purple at times.

Brown is the best colour overall IMO. You get what you see with that one, no weird undertones or overtones or colour shifting.

With Xtractive Transitions, they do change colour in the car when you're driving or near a window. These are the best of all worlds for me, but they're only available in grey, green, and brown.

Supposedly they're slightly tinted when inside, but I haven't noticed anything, they look clear to me.

I ended up going with green non xtractive. I actually like them and how relatively close they are to the stock green lenses. Also I find at intermediate levels of darkness they look more true green than when fully darkened. Maybe I'm less sensitive to the dinginess? Got them through Marco and zoomer but waiting on a replacement due to a smudged hard coat. Will update with pics when I get them back.

Thoughts on where JMM can improve in the future?

This is nitpicking, but there is a circle of glue residue where the temple arm attaches to the frame.

Also, would love to see some kind of "making of" video for how the frames are made.

They could (should) certainly improve their quality control: too many flawed frames around. Secondarily, they should improve their website: too much mistakes there, photos, sizes. And, of course, more fit pictures with different faces would be much appreciated.

I can't handle it. Makes me eyes water if the glasses are in the case and it's been blasted. I got a pair of the 1980 with the gradient lenses and the book was spritzed. Exchanged for the light blue lenses and the replacement had the case soaked. Kicking myself for not waiting to send back the first pair and keeping the not smelly case.

It's definitely the same scent from late 2021 is all I can say.

Any tips other than febreeze (I'm not worried about resale value) or white vinegar to unperfume the hardshell cases?

Yes, it's extremely annoying. In fact I asked for unscented packaging when I ordered directly from them.

Reiterating from the guy you quoted, I just had the same problem with glue residue on the inside where the arm attaches on my Torino Agar. It was highly annoying and I managed to pry it off, but it’s still shoddy quality control for a pair of $800 glasses, handmade or not.

Yeeep the glue, the pin, the squeaky lenses. We really should expect more when Luxxotica and Marcolin (inferior products) don’t have these problems

At this point for the price JMM is asking the frames should come with dinner and some happy time after

I think they’re getting better though

Any Canadians that have ordered JMM from Optical Connection or 1269 that can comment on the experience?
1269 has been a seamless experience for me, entire team is great.

They're open to sending fit photos of particular frames you're interested in. Also open to giving recommendations based on your own face photos.

They're not afraid to say a frame won't look good on you either.

Highly recommend giving them a call, I found them prompt and efficient.

I've bought 2 pairs of glasses from them.
