interior design help?

I'm renting an apartment in the city, and it comes with full beige colored carpets in every room.
If i want to customize the look for the floor, is it a faux pas to put rugs with design on them over the existing carpets?
Every design inspiration I see they all have designer rugs over hardwood floors...

Hey Zhan,
I saw a gallery with some pictures , amazing, the artist is called Roman Lark, you have to see it because with a pretty picture it gives much class and not have to search much decoration, simplicity is the best!
