I was thrifting and I came across a pair of shoes from the Cole Haan Country line. They weren't my size, though in good shape, but I was curious: They were "made in USA". Anybody know who made shoes for Cole Haan here in the states? Anybody know when it might date from?

I think they were made in a Maine factory that is now out of business.

I saw an ad in today's WSJ for an 80th anniversary penny loafer by Cole Haan, handmade in Maine. The picture didn't look too bad, but after laying off most of their workforce years ago, I wondered where CH found the experienced craftsmen needed to make such a creature.

That's their PENNY LIMITED MOC Collection model featuring red stitching and actual 1920s penny.
Made in America, believe or not.
I was picking up some shoe cream and spotted them on the floor. So why not try a pair on, I figured.
First copy (my usual size) didn't fit.
Tried going 1/2 size up - didn't fit.
Tried going 1/2 size down - didn't fit.
Throw in the usual sloppy workmanship domestic makers are notorious for (leather peeling off; undyed spots; wooden feel and so on), and ya got yourself a bargain
