I don't get your reasoning finding people trying to fix problems and fight against oppression as marsupialed and not inspiring.

Not at all; it was a necessity created by the situation, unfortunately. That doesn't make the whole thing any less maniacal or pointless. What I'm saying is that the fact that these conflicts occur at all -- that they are initiated -- is ridiculous. Not that they require a response.

That said, I don't know how you can find fighting more inspiring than peace. The entire reason we can never achieve true peace is that we see it as something to aspire to -- something that hasn't arrived yet, something we need to keep looking forward to. We should, as a species, in all our near-limitless capabilities, be able to start living peacefully immediately. Unfortunately, as long as there is a single soul alive that will fight against peace, we'll never really have it.

That makes sense. But I think the fact that we don't really have peace yet is why its not inspiring.

But also your last line is exactly why I find the fighting inspiring. If there is that soul alive fighting against peace, and no one fighting for it, then it will never happen. But the fact that there are people out there risking their lives to prevent oppression and gain peace is inspiring. We have very similar points, just looking at it from a different angle.

I agree, its incredibly dark. I suppose my knowledge of the period is a result of viewing it through 'rose colored glasses' magazines, et cetera, But the social unrest is a tad inspiring to me on different levels. The social unrest was somewhat of a catalyst for social changes, bands, books, etc I find inspiration from.

I meant nothing insensitive or ill-spirited by posting it.

Ok, so I'm sure everyone here is familiar with http://streetetiquette.com/ - But continuing the theme of inspirational style done on a budget, mentioned a few pages back I love the way these guys take clothing from places like Uniqlo, J. Crew, Topman and occasionally even GAP and make it look original and brilliant.

this is very true.

If we could remove all political connotations, i would like to say this, and i know it's already been said before but it's too often dismissed as "pandering" and "weak":

Do No Tolerance policies against terrorism reduce the latter or increase it?

I think resources would be far better spent on ending the sources of violence, than fighting fire with fire.

I would get so flamed in CE for saying anything remotely left wing these days, what with the neo-liberals and all.
