^ What? Don't you understand how dapper everyone was in the 1950s? I mean, I would've been deemed inferior and naturally servile on account of my ethnicity. But a life of misery is worth it just to be surrounded by all those dreamy men in suits. Also, I bet you could beat your wife with impunity!

And the police didn't take **** allegations seriously.

The 1950's when America was in its heyday and people still thought enough of themselves to dress well.

Did people really dress better in those day? Or are we just seeing a rose tinted fiction created by Hollywood.

Have you seen the way most people dress these days? It couldn't have been worse in the 1950s. On a golf forum I frequent there was a discussion about untucked shirts and jeans on the golf course, what the ****! Even as late as the 1980s that kind of **** would have had you chased off the course.

Wouldn't a lot of that depend on the golf course? Maybe Pebble Beach or Augusta would have high dress standards, not so much at a local pay-and-play place though.

TBH I think dress standards where I am are actually quite high, often culturally inspired though, but certainly much better than in the UK especially with young people.

'Location: Nihon' ... I assume that's Japan, what are dress standards like there? Quite high, I would think.

No not at all, the scummiest municiple course in Australia the U.K. and I assume America would not let you on the course with your shirt untucked or uncollared until at the late 80s, I remember a debate at one of my local courses in the early 90s about letting men wear short socks and ladies wear shorts!

Tigermania brought a whole rush of people to golf who had no idea about the traditions and etiquette of the sport and in more recent years clubs are chasing the elusive dollar so they won't reject anyone no matter how baggy pantsed, hoodied or wife beaterish they are.

Luckily Japan has maintained the standards to a degree but only because Japanese people see golf attire as a costume and they loooooove costumes. I will play this Sunday and I am sure I will see at least a couple of dudes wearing one of the shirts from the international team at the Presidents cup (or U.S. team shirt if they bag Callaway or Nike and love Phil or Tiger. Wearing jeans on a golf course in Japan would be like wearing a suit to an anime convention.

Next time you have a root canal ask for no anesthetic. Then tell me you want to live anytime but the present.
