You realize the pink suit was a symbol for Gatsby's ostentatious, oblivious-to-social-mores, trying-way-too-hard nouveau riche myopia right?

Actually the whole novel was about the decadence of the post-war upper class in the 1920s (includes nouveau and old money). Both sides were myopic.

Well, it certainly wouldn't read that way today, particularly at a wedding. It would be festive & fun.

Let us hope that the OP can wangle some invitations to genteel summer lawn parties or tea dances where he can wear his pink pinstripe with a degree of appropriateness.

To make more persuasive arguments, you should look into the rhetorical (or even denotative) implications of the word "actually."

others argue that it represents how different he is from Tom, Daisy, and essentially the rest of the 1920s. Tom and Daisy representing carelessness, Gatsby representing, as Nick puts it, "hope".

I'd also say that interpreting Gatsby's pink suit as a symbol of "hope" dons some rose-colored glasses (BAH DUMB TSCH).

Any
Exciting day for me.

Most people who know me (which is most likely no one on here, given my low post count - lol), know that I am a fanatic about the Great Gatsby, in the context of literature. I've read the book about 7 or 8 times, and have written many essays in my spare time about my own arguments and theories regarding the text. I've taken a class on the novel in college, and have read countless scholarly essays by others on the piece of work. Needless to say, its my favorite piece of literature, and has been since my first read through during my freshman year at high school. It's a novel that has a special place in my heart. I'm no literary genius or analyst, its just a topic I enjoy researching.

Anyway, I finally bought the famous "pink suit" from the novel, from the Brooks Brother's Gatsby line. Im currently getting it tailored. I don't know if I'm going to wear it or just have it as part of my "Gatsby Collection", lol (I own a first edition copy of the novel and an autographed letter by Fitzgerald. Geek indeed).

Either way, I'm happy I finally got it. Quality wise, its a nice piece. Picked it up for 800. Its EXTREMELY light; linen, I believe, with a very light white stripe.

I'll post pictures when I get it back. I do have a wedding that I'll be attending early september, so I may wear it for that. Otherwise, I think it will just be a token piece for now.

Any chance you still have this suit and would be willing to part ways with it? I am getting married soon and I have been unable to find this suit anywhere

Reading this thread I’m reminded of a few things:

1) what a terrible adaptation that was

2) how overrated filmmaker Baz Luhrmann is.

3) how could anyone wear clothing co branded with a movie and keep a straight face. It’s the sartorial equivalent of having a fast and furious sticker on your Charger

I enjoyed the movie. But I do think the canonical Gatsby movie has yet to be made. I have no particular dislike of Bad Luhrmann. And I don't really understand your third point. The Brooks Brothers collection for the Gatsby movie had no visible "co-branding". I have a couple of the jackets that I still wear from time to time, in the summer. I wish I'd bought the pink linen suit. But, Holland & Sherry make the linen cloth, so I could always have one made.
