How's this for a first sport coat

I just turned 30 and this Gianluca Napoli will be my first sport coat. I have always been a very basic/casual dresser, and am just now attempting to "kick up" my wardrobe. I bought this from STP (for around $200), so I can return it if necessary.

Also, what do you think about turning up the collar on a sport coat? To my untrained eye, it can look a little more interesting (in a good way) at times, but I'm not sure if this is generally considered a faux pas.

Looks like a good jacket for wear with jeans, chinos, some casual dress pants like tweeds, flannels, (not cords). I would not flip up the collar unless it is cold out and thereby justifiable.

A cordoroy jacket is a wardrobe staple, and the colour of this one is great, but you realise it's still pretty casual, right? (In other words: don't stop here!

Yes Jared, it is still pretty casual. I guess it will be sort of a bridge for me to something a bit finer. Thanks!

If you don't own *any* sport coats and you're just starting building up your wardrobe, I'd recommend thrift stores/used clothing/consignment shops. Usually blazers are not hard to find. After picking up a few and wearing them for a while, you will get a feel for what styles/colors/cuts work best on you. Then use this knowledge when you buy new.
