How to shrink new jeans

I just ordered a new pair of William Rast jeans. They're the Billy Flares. Awesome jeans. The softest denim i've ever felt. My dilemma is that the jeans are a little too loose. I got a 36 waist and my only options are to return these for a 34 waist, which i am afraid will be too tight, or to find a way to shrickn the jeans. I don't want to ruin the jeans by washing and drying though that may be my only option. if i was them in warm water and then dry, what will the damage to the jean be? does it really make that much of a difference? any other thoughts?

I would exchange them. If 36 is a little loose, odds are that 34 won't be too tight. If they're tight, they'll stretch. Your slightly loose 36s, though, they sound like a 30-year-old ***** going on 40.

Well those jeans are sanforized so they aren't going to shrink much at all. You shrink raw jeans but not jeans pre-distressed like the ones you have. Your best bet is to take them to a tailor and have them taken in.

Don't get jeans tailored.

Exchange the jeans, they'll stretch. If the 34'ss don't fit at all (even though they probably will), your best bet is to boil the 36's for about an hour. Sanforized denim WILL shrink.

Not much. And they will stretch right back out. There't a lot of info on this on superfuture.
