For instance a plain old jcrew button shirt. How many wears can you go before a wash. Now a couple of pertinent points here.

1. I dont wear t shirts underneath. Im not 10 years old and it just feels lame and worse looks lame.

2. I work in an office environment which means very little exertion during the day. And im not a big sweater.

3. I have this idea that clothes, even well made ones, cant help but slowly deteriorate with too many washes.

So barring humming BO, how many times you guys go between washes.

I follow a 3 step process.

1. Pick up shirt.

2. Place shirt directly infront of nose.

3. Inhale. If it smells, wash it. If it doesn't, it's fine.

Eh. Cold water, gentle/handwash cycle and some mild detergent has never steered me wrong yet.

^i just don't have the time. all we wash here are knock-around clothes that we can toss in the washer. my wife probably does 30 tubs of laundry a week with our kids so when i ask her to hand wash/gently wash, she tells me to **** myself.

“All we wash here are knock-around clothes that we can toss in the washer.”

yeah might have to adopt this strategy (dry cleaning the good stuff that is), as painful as it will be for me.

I wash after every wear, unless i didn't wear the shirt the whole day.

i just do a cold wash on the gentle cycle + hang dry, and i've never had any problems with clothes wearing out quickly. also, woolite dark on anything that isn't a white shirt.

+1 I revived a few buttons up from 1999 after I found a good tailor and the color still looks pretty good.
