How Do I Know When a Shoe is Worn Out?

While many here may not actually wear their shoes until this point, I'm wondering what I should look for in a shoe to know when it is actually "worn out." What should the upper look like? The inner lining? The outer sole?

Pics would be helpful.

Thanks.

When your cobbler refuses to resole it, or when you don't like the look of the upper. More leeway on brown than black, "character"-wise.

+1

When they are worn out the half way resole them for winter or home and garden. Then after that they have a second live in "used clothes/clothing collection".

When you can see your sock through the sole, that's a pretty good sign they are done..
