How destructible are thin-knit sweaters?

Yo. I received today a cardigan from NSF (75% wool, 15% cashmere) that's pretty sweet-- really soft, fits well, etc. Only problem is the material looks a bit thin. In areas where the sweater is most subjected to stress, like the elbows, etc, I can see the color of the t-shirt I'm wearing underneath. This itself is fine, except I'm worried about the fibers breaking or wearing easily.

I had an interesting experience last year where a cotton B. Son cardigan basically self destructed in areas where my laptop bag rubbed against it. The material came out ragged and full of small holes. Will the same thing happen to my new sweater?

I want to know about this too, since I'm about to pull the trigger on one. I suspect that what B!CD describes is all too common, sadly

A Jil Sander sweater on the first wear, haha. I didn't notice the holes til I got home, or I may have not been my normal calm drunk self.

Hell no, haha. I've been wanting to take it to a reweaver to see if they can fix it, but haven't had time. I'm fairly sure its not gonna happen though, the color difference between the inside and outside kind of complicates things.

i knew as soon as i saw the pic that it was the jil silk/cotton/cashmere 2-sided garment dyed sweater from fall. i have the cardigan with the purple inside so i hope that doesnt happen to me. though i have a few others from previous seasons that have held up really well. i wouldn't even really consider them thin though.

Probably gonna replace it once I get my bills paid off, if it's still available. I put myself on a strict budget for the new year :p
