I assume I would. But I think it would greatly depend on what I was wearing and how formally I was dressing up. It shouldn't make a difference, as long as the stain or what have you can't be seen, but the distinction still exists in my head. Oh, my mood would affect the decision also. The fact that I rarely throw things out helps me avoid having an iron-clad rule here.

I'm wearing an OCBD with no collar button under a sweater. The lack of button is visible, but I think it's sort of cool and minimal! Who needs a collar button if I don't wear a tie?

At my college a frayed oxford cloth collar was a high status symbol.
It implied that one had been wearing Ivy (Preppie) clothes long
before college.
