I'm long over due for the lDC Chinatown bus ride to NYC, and this is one of the places I wanted to check out.

How much are the shirts?
How much are the ties?
Snooty?
Do I need to be fully stylized when I walk in the door to get proper treatement?

And anything else I should check out that would be "nearby"

Thanks.

Just ordered a shirt from them this weekend..
Was a good experience.
The owner was friendly and very knowledgeable.
Will let you know how it turns out when it comes in!

I think I got pretty decent treatment, though I wasn't quite dressed looking like I was ready to buy a bespoke shirt...

There was a sale on some of the off-the-rack shirts going on, not sure when that ends.
20peacocks.com should give you some idea on the pricing
Off the rack shirts started around $129 I believe.
The bespoke shirts start at $145 for 1, cheaper if you buy more.
The Italian bespoke shirts are more expensive.

The other bespoke shirt markers I found in NYC were more expensive, so I did not end up visiting them in person.
However most are within that general area (LES-Nolita-Chinatown) if you wanted to visit several.

Others-
sew - 229a mott st - sewnyc.com
duncan quinn - 8 spring st - duncanquinn.com
seize sur vingt -- 243 elizabeth st - 16sur20.com

While in the area stop by-
Roasting Plant - www.roastingplant.com
Cocoa Bar (across the street)
Sugar Sweet Sunshine (if you like cupcakes) rivington & essex
il Laboratoria del Gelato - 95 orchard st

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm going this Saturday actually.
I may have to get an earlier flight.

145 for a bespoke/MTM shirt?

How long is the wait?

145, yup
the sign said 4 weeks wait to get the shirt.. but i believe when i ordered he said 2-3 weeks for me..

so it must depend on how busy they are, and 4 weeks is a max

Just got back.
I got 2 of the RTW Italian Shirts and ordered 1 MTM.

1. Taccaliti for 20 Peacocks - 1 was a French Cuff/Spread Collar check.
2. The other a standard collar, blue with contrast navy blue stitching

*pics forthcoming, need to find a camera*

Discovery #1 - slim fit - I"m not really a portly guy (5'11/190lbs/42L but should be 44R now.....), but I recognize I need to get back down to my skateboarding weight.

But slim fit? Wow, it's great!

You don't have to be skin and bones/skinny to wear slim fit.

I wore my favorite Thomas Pink Shirt, and after putting on something with less fabric, i'm a changed man. (this of course means my current 30-40 shirt rotation now "doesn't fit" - but that seems to be the natural SF forum evolution).

Can shirts be taken in? If so, how much?

3. The other I got was a MTM shirt, which was my first MTM shirt experience.

I figured I would find a nice check, get a cutaway collar and some french cuffs, and be done with it. Maybe a nice Blue Twill.

If you've never gotten an MTM shirt, it's a something to write about.

He had maybe 10 books of fabric, and started me off with 4.

A lot of the ones I was thinking about for my first Jantzen, were actually in his book. Some weren't as nice as I thought they would be.

The hardest part about it was envisioning what the shirt would look like.
I thought I had a good handle on it, but apparently not.

So actually picking a fabric was pure hell. He helped me decide on a white shirt striped with Lilac (really light purple?) and Lavender (a slightly darker lavender).

I decided to go all the way with the bells and whistles and threw subtle to the wind.

- inside collar with my monogram - which no one will see (I liked El Guapo Wong's)

- inside collar lilac contrast - which I doubt anyone will notice

- inside of the cuff lilac contrast - again, just for me (Paul Smith anyone?)

- convertible cuffs (french or button) - possibly noticeable

- stitching and buttons in of course lilac - noticeable for sure

But because I had never seen it before, I went with a contrast gauntlet. (the part of the shirt past the cuff but before the elbow with the button.

Delivery should take 4 weeks, and he said he'd mail the finished shirt down to DC where I am.

The whole experience was great.

I got a really good shirt education in terms of what to look for generally, but also figuring out what I really like.

For you Francophiles, he speaks French.

He was very respectful to me and anyone who walked in the shop.

He had a display case of cuff links and collar stays.

There were silk squares, 15 for solid, 28 for patterned. (didn't look at the makers, as i'm looking for colored linen squares with white piping right now)

A couple tables full of ties form Eccomi (70-80), Ted Baker (70-80), and a handful of Brioni (165)

There were some socks, (he actually threw in a pair after I bought the 3 shirts)

All in all, it was a great experience.

If you are going to wear the shirt Untucked as shown, I would remove the extra buttons on the tail and save them in a drawer.

The dark blue buttons are a bit much for my taste on this shirt.
otherwise, looks like a decent fit.

I've been thinking of removing any extra buttons like that on my shirts I wear untucked. Just gotta find a safe storage spot :).

I think my fiance agrees on your button color comment, so it goes.

Wouldn't he have to wear it untucked given how short the body is?

I tried to get it cut at such a length that I can wear it untucked.. but still just barely long enough to tuck it as well.

I tried it both ways and it seems like we got the length right.
