For the Canadians out there, I notice Harry Rosen -- www.harryrosen.com -- is having its summer sale. I went into the Montreal store and the prices aren't that good. However, there is a suit that I want and, not being familiar with Rosen's sales, I wondered if they do a second set of bigger markdowns in the coming weeks?

In 2000 I bought a pair of Zegna boots from Harry Rosen in Montreal at deep discount. Though my memory might be tainted because the US-Canadian dollar exchange rate was far more favorable to your southern neighbors at the time.

Shoes are indeed on sale but the selection varies by store. I tried on a nice pair of brown Zegna naked brogues that were down to $300 but the rest was mostly Boss and Cole Haan with the odd Canali. Shoes and sportswear were reduced by an additional 25% here in Toronto. Ties usually go down to 50-60% off but don't expect big markdowns on dress shirts or suits\\coats. There is however a consolidation sale twice a year at the FCP store where shirts and suits get reduced further.

The one in FCP only has Prada and Ecco on sale in any sort of quantity (at least when I was there). No surprise that a couple of business types were lapping up the high-shine prada loafers (while commenting on how much more luxurious the shoe was than the Canali).

I find that Harry's sales generally suck. The best sale going is the last weekend of Holt Renfrew's Now or Never Sale. Stuff that's marked down from 50%-70% is an extra 20% off. This year it will probably be the second weekend of August.

AND Holt's now has a decent shoe selection, so one could score some good deals.

Got a Ted Baker Suit (endurance line) and a pair of Ecco Brogues just about a week ago. In Edmonton there is still quite a bit of good stuff. Of course this is my opinion, and your response may be that a Ted Baker suit is not good stuff, but for $425, it does more than I need a suit for.

The shoes were nice too, they only had the black on sale, but I thought a pretty good deal at 125 bucks.

There was quite a bit of Boss on sale too for around 600-700.

The Eccos were the only dress shoes on sale.

I picked up a Canali suit for $1149 CDN (before taxes), which I think is a pretty good detail. It retails at ~$1800.

I got a great pinstripe Single breasted Navy Boss suit for $699- (regularly $999). I love the Ecco Shoes.... I have to say they are the MOST comfortable shoes I have ever owned.

Their sales are never that good. They advertise 50-60%, but most stuff isn't discounted that much.
